I've used the 600 and I find the 900 much more readable. It's so much better that I only have to use the small font size (I'm very nearsighted with astigmatism; my vision is shot). For periodicals I use medium. Why it is, I don't know; perhaps it's due to having more shades of greyscale. Shades of greyscale should, in theory, only effect images. When I purchased my 600 it was a savings of $183 compared to the 900. That savings was not enough to keep me away from the 900 once I tried one at a local SonyStyle Store.
