The cbz viewer in the booster pack uses a pretty decent Java based scaler and dither routine that has supplied pretty good results for me.
I mainly used the Spiderman "King Pin" series for Comic testing but I've since been using it for lots of photo slide shows, power points etc... the 768x963 16 levels of grey resolution does help over the Sony Reader.
