I doubt it's Intel vs AMD. I've used AMD CPUs in the past (though Intel at the moment), and never heard a word about stuff that ran on one and not the other.
You might want to look at Camino, the Mozilla project to make a specific version for the Mac.
MS is certainly anti-Linux - I just saw an article referring to an internal job posting at MS for people to work under regional directors in anti Linux/Open Office efforts. I can't see MS doing that if they didn't perceive
some threat.
Opera isn't
completely standards compliant, but
no browser is. Opera does do as good a job as any.
