It is a pretty big assumption. And it's certainly not relevant to everyone. I mostly mention it because I have a lot of friends who were ardent Apple pundits during their college days, and as soon as they entered the work place and started having disposable income, they started buying (and loving) Apple products.

The other reason is because it seems like this device is priced differently than all the other devices where I do believe that you pay an apple tax. This device has a screen 4-6 times the size of the iPhone, and it costs less than an unsubsidized version.
