It apparently makes use of a Shared Folder concept, and I am guessing does this via Wi-Fi (network drive?) or Bluetooth?

Not saying I agree with this design decision but so far there is no evidence you can't move your own content onto the iPad.
But yes, a lot of folks are declaring it a VERY closed system because connectivity to a desktop was apparently not demonstrated (I have seen no pictures of such).
