Reading on LCD has never bothered my eyes, actually, though I believe those who say they have a problem with it. Reading on a CRT was more of an issue, perhaps because of the refresh rate, but even there I was able to do so for hours at a time. (I've been working in the computer field for over 20 years.)
I do prefer reading light colored text on a dark background on LCD, however. Hopefully that will be an option on the iPad. (Allowing Stanza to run would be fine for my needs.)
