Amazon takes a loss on bestsellers when they force the price to $9.99. I'm not saying Apple would be crazy to do the same, but I think they want to see what will happen if they just let publishers set the prices.
I'll be especially interested to see what happens to prices when a book goes from hardcover to paperback release. Prices don't get updated at Fictionwise very quickly when that happens. Maybe Apple will be more aggressive about trying to keep publishers up to date.
