I'm going to come across as a heretic here, but I didn't find the e ink screen on my iLiad all that readable, especially in dim lighting (e.g. in the evening with a book light to try to avoid keeping my partner awake). And while the iLiad had an open OS in theory, in practice there was very little development going on there. I'm much more optimistic that someone will come up with good PDF markup software, and perhaps even citation-gathering software, on this platform. (By "citation" software, I mean that I highlight text in a PDF journal article and tag it, and the software builds a database for me of quotes with appropriate citations drawn from metadata, searchable by text or by tag. Hey, I'm getting ready to do a dissertation. It would be worth it to me to buy this if it could make that process more manageable. That was why I bought the iLiad-- and it failed for the purpose.)
