I can see, however why Apple chose not to release this at CES, I don't think it would have made much of a splash, then again only a couple ereader devices were anything truly interesting either.
My take is Apple is evolving this platform slowly right now because, well, it has never worked well in previous other designs (existing slate PC's) though they are far more capable with things like Wacom, etc...but the real unfortunate part is I can already see the myriad of "...take your iPad to the Maxi..." and such similar lines...
As it seems, I would sit back and wait as there is nothing special and again Apple is going to control each and every app allowed to run on the device. That slows or even stifles innovation. But in a couple generations it might actually be a solid computing platform. but for my needs in this form factor, nothing I would find useful...then again what the iPad seems to do well, I don't do at all...I never have gotten into gaming because I have long earned my living on a computer so my recreation has always been as far away from the computer screen as possible

, I have a nice 17" laptop of I want to watch movies/streaming content from Hulu or Netflix or other sources...if I spend $400ish on new I can restore this 4yr old laptop back to 10-16hrs of runtime including video and wifi. Yeah, i don't get a touch screen and it's heavier, but it works well for everything already and then some...and oh yeah, 1TB of local HDD storage that cost me about $200 for the two 500gb drives...the iPad just is not the device I have a need for...but for those who do these things, it gives the Archos 9 some competition...oh and the Archos 9 runs Win7 which, for me is important since the iPad does not run OSX (meaning it would not run Lightroom or Photoshop).
I might have missed it, but what is the ability to view the device in sunlight?
