A couple of people have posted that they did not receive a hard case with their 900. The 900 is sold as a kit (PRS-900BCKIT). Sony is shipping the kit to retailers. It seems that some places are opening up the kit and selling the Reader without the hard case, and perhaps selling the hard case separately.

Here are some photos of what you should have when buying in person or ordering online unless it's a special discounted offer that mentions the exclusion of the hard case.
