Depending on where you are and whether your landlord is bribing someone, a little bird whispering in your local government's ear might have a salutary effect.
LOL - I bet it would be worth considering!

Happily, the real estate agent was mildly competent and actually got around to fixing the urgent problems once they were complained about in a grumpy enough manner. Except the padlock on the back stairs, which the electrician kindly removed for us instead. Definitely not in his job description, and they MAY complain about it - but pfffft. They'll have to cope.
