Have you read Homer and Langley by E.L. Doctorow? Are they they type of "odd" or like John Irving's odd characters?

Hmm, don't know too much John Irving tbh - still on my TBR list. But the Langley brothers. Hmmm. Yes, there is some of it in the characters.
Weirdly enough, the way the characters are described, the behaviours are so very swedish / scandinavian. Not wanting to discriminate, but I just can't see that story being set anywhere else.
Larsson has managed to bring misfits of society seemlessly in contact with very rich people as well as waving a flag for the freedom of the press. They all have relationship issues but all seem to get along. And it doesn't even read as odd when Larsson brings the characters together.
I'm trying real hard to be a bit obscure as I don't want to give anything away. Would be a shame if anything I write would spoil the enjoyment for someone else.
What the hell, I'm gonna read the next book right now. I can always read them again
