I worked with medical specialist for over 7 years - and yes, it's wise to hide the red button (although I suspect they didn't do a good job as you still broke it).

And that IT got peeved at you - no surprise there either - I bet you or someone else actually DID try the paper in computer thing.

We mostly got complaints that the dictaphones didn't phone after the smart doctor had thrown the mic against the wall, kicked it across the room or walked of to see a patient with the headset still attached to machine. Of course, fault of IT that they bought such flimsy dictaphones in the first place.
