My 505 does the same, and I thought it was normal. It's not, for some reason a certain percentage of eink screens (which includes kindles and whatnot) do this. Some are worse than others. It doesn't bother me enough to go through the trouble of exchanging it, I just angle my Reader so my shadow covers it.
