ah-ha!!!! now we come to the root of the problem! I loathe and detest all Adam Sandler, (most) Jim Carrey, Jack Black and so on films. just having the images pass my eyeballs makes me feel that some of my IQ is swirling down a toilet drain. as a result... I JUST DON'T GO. I don't ponder, wonder or seek out the genre or the actors. when people are discussing these types of films, it is pottybreak time for me, or perhaps time for me to just move on down the road. I know I will not like them, so why inflict them upon myself?
On the other hand I LOVE action adventure, scifi, *most* fantasy and will go to these movies. when ALIENS came out I was still an active duty Army She Beast and wanted to grow up to be just like Ripley!
see... I think what you are running into is that you probably are too immersed with knowing the hows, whys, wherefores and so ons of the making of the movie. in most films we need some child like suspension of belief, and you are too down with nitty gritty, knowing how things are done to relax and enjoy the show.
I wonder how many people thought the colors in the Wizard of Oz were too garrish and would distract from the enjoyment of the film?

Well, maybe, I do have two separate degrees in film, both a practical one in design and a theory one. :0
Back to recommendations and this is one I love with a passion bordering on insanity - John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China.
