I'd go with a completely random sampling of people, 94% children and 6% adults (for the children's flexibility and the adults' child-rearing and parentage influence). I would not worry about which humans knew what, because if I was that advanced, I could record the sum of human intelligence and make it available to the humans wherever we deposit them.
I would avoid selecting from humans with significant physical or mental defects,
if I thought they would adversely impact the ultimate survivability of the race
vis a vis procreation and establishment of a healthy racial genome... but hopefully the situation would not be so dire as to force me to make such a decision.
