nice, start with an easy question. "fatale" means fatal, in the sense "causing death", or it can mean "decided by fate" depending on context. "femme fatale" means exactly what you think it means, so obviously the "fatale" there is figurative, but you get the idea.

Cool, thanks for that. I don't have much so far. The image of a train pulling into a station, lots of steam. A cat running through that steam to be picked up by a woman who looks strikingly like Marleine Dietrich, and this line (from the POV of the main character watching the cat and the woman).
