Without a Clue is a great one, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother another, and my all-time favourite 'They Might Be Giants'. This new iteration is just an action movie that has borrowed the names for 'brand recognition'.
One of my favorite SH movies that deviates considerably from the books is The Seven Percent Solution. In this case, I believe it is the die-hard Holmes fans who know the mythology who most appreciate the deviations; even if only as a "what if" type of scenario. The movie and the book were both wonderfully crafted. The line at the end as Holmes is preparing for an extended time away was wonderful. Watson demands to know how he should explain Holmes' absence to his readers, only to be told by Holmes to tell them he was killed by Professor Moriarty. After all, said Holmes, the readers will never believe him anyhow. Only people familiar with the books can truly appreciate a line like that.
