People want the content from newspapers but newspapers don't want to reformat their paper to fit readers. So some middle ground needs to be found.
We can certainly show a 100% size crop of the paper and then scroll around, but scrolling is BAD on e-ink and I wouldn't want to do it even on a normal display (am I waxing the screen?) I remember reading about the art of folding a large newspaper into a much smaller rectangle in a way where switching to the next window slice requires minimal unfolding and folding. An semi-intelligent next-previous system can move the view window to the next relevant section. Newspapers are formatted into narrow columns of text so this may work.
I would refer a medium size screen with really high resolution so we can still see the text with the entire page on the screen and be able to do a quick scan of the subjects. And then when we click on an article, it'll show either a zoomed-in view or a reflow text view of just one article. Available e-ink displays are around 150dpi... that is such a joke compared to the 1200-2400dpi of the common laser printer. I rather have denser screens than large screens.
