This is a free stand-alone short story (and a "teaser") to see if you enjoy the characters, writing, etc. when (if) you make a decision to pay money for the author's novel.

This is quite normal and is becoming more fashionable as authors attempt to promote their work and encapsulate a larger audience.

Your understandable confustion may arise from the title's thread, where the author calls it a "book."

Douglas Clegg (a horror writer), also uses this method of promotion.
