Would it make sense to add LRF to FBReader? If there was a specification for LRF, I think the FBReader authors would probably put adding this format on their to-do list. One difference is that FBReader defines fonts and layouts per device rather than per document, so I'm not sure it will show you exactly what you will get on the Sony Reader. The same is presumably true of using a web browser to pre-view the .html version. Note that FBReader can read html as well (provided it is a single file, or has a .opf metafile describing the file sequence), and it may therefore already be better than a web browser for previewing e-books in .html.
