I just started up the software for the first time in a few weeks, went onto the ebook store - having seen on "Finding Free ebooks" that Sony have a freebie which looks interesting - and was met by a page saying that they had detected that I was running an old version of the software (2.5.00.09170... um I accidentally told them I'm in the US, Sssshhh....don't tell...) and linking to the download page for the new software. There were no other links on the page and no way for me to download the book I wanted without also downloading the new software.

I've heard so many bad reports about the new version that I've avoided it, thinking it was an option, not compulsory. Does anyone know a way round this? I don't want the new software, I'm quite happy with the version I have. Strange that they haven't also detected my little fib.

I wouldn't have thought it mattered to Sony what software I use to download their freebies.

Please help if at all possible. Thanks.
