Yup, low-light is the bane of the 600/900. Reading lights are practically a must in the evening.
The problem is that the touch layer is scattering and reflecting more of the light than you'd expect, so good direct light helps overcome that.
The 300 can be read more clearly in low light, and will reflect less light off the glass (so you won't see your face in it at the wrong angles). However, both the 300 and 900 will reflect bright things equally (like the bulb in the lamp) and introduce glare that way.
