The iPhone has nowhere near the market share that the iPod had when Zune was launched. Symbian is around 50%, RIM 21, iPhone 14, Android around 3. In contrast, the iPod had well over 50% (probably closer to 70%) when the Zune launched.
Separately, there is little evidence that Microsoft has figured out why the Zune has languished, or that they are likely to stop the WinMo slide. I gotta say, I'm not sure why you would take advice from a failure....
