The daily show and colbert report are free online legally. Alot of other shows are free online via Hulu. Amazon Unbox, XBox 360, iTunes all also sell a subscription to a TV shows... When you watch on Hulu or CBS/Fox/etc web site it usually has ads which makes it free.

There are also $100ish (one time purchase) devices like the new boxie box or Roku box which also you to watch a lot of content that is online for free on your big screen TV rather than your PC monitor.

But, even if I buy the one or two shows that I can get OTA (which means over the air with an antenna) then I will still come out ahead cash wise.
