Yea, it isn't cheap. I originally had replayTV which was fee free... I actually just stopped using it last month. My first TiVo was a TiVo HD and I pre-paid for 3 years of service to get the best per/month rate I could at the time.

But, cable is so expensive these days... I am strongly considering going OTA only and d/l-ing stuff that I can't get with my antenna... that would mostly be stuff that is on SyFy and my Daily Show/Colbert report. I'm not sure why to continue paying cable when I can get 95% of what I watch for free OTA and the rest for free online. It would save me about $70 a month. We get all our movies from Blockbuster DVD by mail.

Once my 3 years is up on TiVo I might go over to Windows Media Center rather than pay the fee. Not sure on that one yet.
