Resizing is very important to me! And it was a feature that worked with all books from the Sony store before this epub conversion...

I think that's probably another case of the publisher of the particular epub you have doing a really bad job. I have epubs that do resize the fonts on my Sony 505 so it must be a functionality that at least some epubs have.
