From memory: Once you chose the "Highlight text" option, a 4-way direction pad plus the selection circle appears in your touchscreen. You use it to position the cursor where you want the highlight to start, click the selection circle, then use the direction keys to put your cursor where you want the selection to end and tap the selection circle again. So just like a text editor like emacs.
