Sorry happysnapper but I couldn't disagree with you more. A well designed and structured library provides people, kids especially, with the opportunity to explore worlds to which they may have no access at all otherwise.
What does a child do that comes from a family in which a book is the latest copy of Hello, if they're lucky? Social mobility and the success of an economy go hand in hand and access to books, I would suggest, boosts social mobility. Anyway, I think its a basic human right.
I'm just fine with my taxes funding public libraries. They need all the cash they can get.
