welcome Arkietech. What specific information are you looking for about reading PRC or Kindle files? Will the books that you get be DRM free? If so you have lots of options.
If not, then I believe that Amazon's Kindle4PC software may be of interest. If the ebooks are drm free, then you can use Calibre software to convert almost any format to the format that the reading software you choose uses.
