brecklundin, "right now" is indeed a very optimistic way of putting it.

Personally, all I want is a big-sized, touch screen, e-ink device with good battery life, able to handle a decent spectrum of formats. I don't even really *care* about the advanced features, so them being delayed is certainly no issue to me. As far as I'm aware (and please correct me if I'm wrong), the IRex 1000 series is the only alternative currently available, and it's more expensive for (I think, but remains to be confirmed) less functionality. For the asking price, the Que will have to handle pretty close to perfectly for my specific needs, though. I'm hoping they'll be giving some of the attendees the chance for some proper hands on time and we'll hear some more specifics shortly.

The Skiff's the only other forthcoming product I've seen mentioned so far that might fit with me, and who knows when and at what price that will actually get released. And like you, I I'm wary of the "smell" of the marketing so far.

Even with all the delays, it still seems the Que is going to have first mover advantage in this particular niche (discounting the Irex) and with the Kindle DX weighing in at $500 without touchscreen, I highly doubt we'll be seeing anything significantly undercutting the $650 version. (I have zero interest in the 3G functionality.)
