Well, folks, this is a well known marketing strategy, called Price Skimming - see
here. This was not invented by Apple, nor is Apple the only company that uses it. There is even an example at the bottom of that page that says...

Since this turns against Apple, let's talk about Microsoft: wouldn't you be happy to see that their prices go down after the first year? But, no, they keep the price from day one till the end, because the market accepts the price! And, yet, we only see Apple!
