I just got my PRS-600 in November. I installed the old version of the Sony software (pre-EPUB), and then upgraded to the newer version a week or two later. I had no problems with the install or upgrade.
However, three different times I have had issues with syncing stuff. The first time I just deleted everything I'd put onto my reader, and started the sync again. After that, I took the advice (from somewhere in these forums) and only synced stuff that I got from Sony. It was mostly going OK, except that something got out of sync last week, and I lost all my places in all my books, and the Software won't sync anymore. It hangs on whatever the first item is that it finds.
Overall, my view of the Sony software is that when it works, it's fine, nothing to write home about. The sync feature is irritating when it doesn't work, and the access to the Sony store through the software is clunky. I usually use the web to search for something, and then go into the software only if I want to buy something. I suspect that if it was easier to access Sony's book store, they would probably sell more stuff.
I've used Calibre a little bit, but haven't invested the time to really learn or understand it. I do like the single key actions.
I've had no problems with Adobe DE.
I may be the minority here - but I'd rather drag & drop my stuff onto the reader or SD card that use software to sync it. That's why I prefer the Sony over the Kindle or even the nook (because I already have the SD cards).
I think that's why it's been so frustrating trying to get the GEB-1150 ready to use for my daughter, because drag & drop isn't available.
