Stainless steel does not rust...it actually can look like dried skin and flake off in a white power. Yeah, this is corrosion but it's not rust in the typical sense. To go further how resistant to rust a blend of stainless can be depends on the percentages of chromium and nickle. The more of each, the closer it gets to completely impervious to rusting.
Ask any avid golfer about different mixtures/grades of stainless (club heads as well as shafts but mostly about club heads) and you will get an hour long discussion. BTW, the proper mixture also creates a stainless which is not only structurally strong but also flexible. And in an ereader panel those seem to be some very desirable properties.
But for all intents and purposes, odds are that a reader's other parts will turn to dust before the stainless steel becomes too brittle due to corrosion.
