LG has been working with e-ink since lg merged with phillips years ago. the first e-ink panels were made with eink and phillips together.

the first panel maker was not PVI. the first generation Sony Libre launched in 2004 was created by a partnership between Phillips(now lg Phillips), Sony , Eink and Toppan Printing http://www.eink.com/press/releases/pr70.html they started that development in 2001.

PolymerVision was spun out of Phillips in 2007

LG only just got a license to produce panels on their own but they have been developing with it for 9 years or so as Phillips. You are confusing their license to produce panels on their own with their developing the whole tech to do so.

LG/Phillips has been at it far longer than a couple months
