They would care if I stripped the DRM, and then sold copies for $1 on ebay. I think common sense on these matters is stronger than "the law".
I also fully agree that Amazon will not care if it is done for personal use. However, that does not change what the law is. Therefore, I neither recommend to others to strip DRM, nor admit on public forums that I do it.

I also agree common sense is important.
