2.5 pounds isn't so very lightweight, but and 5 hours of battery life may be sufficient for the sort of thing you seem to have in mind.
I suspect that there will be developers -- if I recall correctly, it will have a PalmOS emulator, so the present Palm developers should be able to move right in, and I imagine enough linux folks will be interested in a new platform to draw some apps fairly quickly.
