Update: works great!
This hack overrides the custom fonts in epub books converted by calibre (using this method
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36361 ) - a small price to pay.
I can also confirms this works with DRM epubs from the sony store.
I've added this code to my userStyle css to improve readability:

line-height: 130%
}
div {
line-height: 130%
}
Worked fine
