Hello all,
I'm new on this forum, and I need help.
First a little background. I use my PC (WinXP) with different USB devices
three to five times a week with no problems. Then I installed Calibre as tool
to use with my brand-new (Christmas present) Kindle2. Here is what is happening:
1) I installed Calibre on my PC and I loaded a couple of PDF files and downloaded, through Calibre, a Newsweek summary.
2) Next I converted the files to MOBI.
3) I connected the Kindle to my USB port the 'connection graphic' is displayed on the Kindle and the device graphic is displayed in Calibre
showing 1.4GB available.
4) When I 'click' on Calibre's device icon, all of my Kindle content is
displayed, as it should, WinFileExplorer sees Kindle, and the Kindle shows
up on the taskbar. All is perfect.
5) I then I open the 'Library' in Calibre, select a book, and 'click' the
'Send to Device' icon. Here is what happens:
A) The Kindle's connection graphic drops and the 'Home' page is displayed.
B) The Calibre 'Jobs' wheel starts turning, and sometimes after several
minutes 'Error Connecting to Device' is displayed in Calibre.
C) The icon is still in the Windows taskbar but when summoned it no
longer shows the device, and Kindle is missing from WinFileExplorer.
D) The Calibre 'Jobs' wheel keeps turning and nothing is happening.
E) I kill Calibre with WinTaskmanager, because Calibre complains with
"Cannot Kill Jobs that Communicate with the Device".
F) Win XP crashes and requires a hard re-boot to recover.
Its as if the Calibre 'de-mount switch' and the 'Send to Device switch' are being activated at the same time.
Do you think I have a bad, new cable, even though one direction works fine?
Isn't MOBI the correct format for Kindle?
Will the latest version (0.6.32) of Calibre help?
