update: still going after 4 hours of reading. starting to look like its not using a lot of power, just the battery meter is faulty.

This is interesting. Do newer models use smaller batteries? - It may be that the firmware is misjudging the capacity of the battery..
It should last longer in that case. Will try it and see it out till its completely empty this time.
