Thumbs up My thoughts on my 300

I have had my PRS-300 for a few days now and I thought I would post my thoughts about this little ereader. The reason is I know there are a lot of people trying to decide what ereader to purchase. Well I have been reading ebooks in one form or another on several different devices for a few years now. Most of the time I have been reading books on my cell phone and the big problem with that is it drains my battery pretty quickly. The same reason I don’t listen to MP3’s on my phone!
So my old ereader had died a month or so ago and I was in need of a new one. I have always like the way Sony ereaders felt in your hands but like most people I spent way too much time researching the pro’s and con’s of different devices. In the end I pretty much caused more confusion for myself than anything.
I am a tech person so the geek part wasn’t ever the issue..the issue was I wanted a ereader that would read most formats and was portable. I have several friends that have Kindle’s and they are nice but larger than I wanted. Same goes for the Sony PRS-600. I am the type that wants to see and touch a product before I purchase it! That didn’t happen with the PRS-300. I was going out of town and wanted to take a few books with me and I wasn’t going to load down a carryon with books!!
I ended up purchasing the PRS-300 online and picked it an hour after I bought it. I took it home hooked it up to my PSP charger and let it charge overnight. Then next morning I downloaded the Sony software, created an account and purchased a couple of books. Next I loaded 50 ebooks I had on my laptop and without checking anything I drove to the airport. Now I was early and turned on the Sony and set the date and time and language. I was sitting in the airport and reading in mins. I had loaded “One” book in different formats to see how the 300 handled them and they all looked great. I’m not going to get into the “Tech” details of this ereader because you can read tons of that right her on this forum. What I am going to say is I love the size of this baby!. It won’t play your DVD or MP3’s but what it does it does very well! It is a basic ereader that allows you to take a ton of books with you in a small form factor!.
The screen is great and looks just like my wife’s PRS505. It refreshes quicker than her Sony and is easier to hold with one hand. It has the same basic functions without the extras. My wife has even loaded a few books on the 300 because she loves the size. She always said I would have to pry the 505 out of her hands but now she has a crush on my 300! She won’t give up her 505 but she just thinks the 300 is too cute in her words!
What I can say about it 300 is I do wish it had a card slot but it really isn’t that big of a deal. For the $179.00 it cost me it was money well spent. If you are looking for and ereader and you don’t care if it has wireless or can play music than the PRS-300 is a great product. There are a lot of great ereaders out there but this little 300 has found a place in my world …..and from the looks of it I will have to buy my wife one in the near future!
