I think it stands up well against her other work, although I noticed when I went to find a link to it on Fictionwise that it's published by Harlequin, which certainly explains why it had more romance elements in it than her other books.

The world-building and politics was done well I thought, with the back-stories kept in their place as back-stories through references and asides, rather than having info-dumps explaining how things came to be as they are.
