I just bought this, too. As you mention, one has to slightly lift up - although, I now find it MUCH easier to press down slightly and pull back slightly JUST ABOVE THE TOP LEFT STRAP to turn it on or off.

I'm one of these people who have multiple Readers AND multiple cases.
