had this happen on my prs-505 when changing the battery
yes i know that this isn't really fair as its not considered a user serviceable part but surely there should be additional padding behind the screen to give it a bit of support.
needless to say i am upset to say the least. FWIW my unit had screen problems before of the "half the screen turns off before the other" type and the damage is on the same side.
Thanks to the guy who sold me the semi broken mb's and screens, at least it revealed what had gone wrong.
FWIW if you are *really really* careful you can dissect a broken screen and salvage the elastomer front by carefully peeling off the damaged backplane fragments. this behaves exactly the same as the esquire magazine except for the whole back being adjustable. 27V + finger = fingerprint "scanner"

maybe i can make a new backplane and homebuild something.....
anyone got any broken screens?
if the crack is near the bottom of the screen this seems to affect everything to the top and left past the crack, as the backplane drivers are in this area.
I did also discover that if you are changing the battery its worth putting the unit on a semi hard (i.e. several dust free A4 sheets on ceramic desk) surface first as this reduces strain on the delicate backplane area. Not that it helped in my case as the screen was already damaged.
just my $0.02 worth.
