Very good solution.

A website should NEVER try to force its own settings/preferences on a user. Where or how links open are MY decision.

I know forums that open links in new windows by default (without option to disable!) and I could kick the responsible person every time again. If I want to leave a page and follow a link, I want to follow that link - not get a new window/tab.

I don't mind having the option to do so, but I hate websites trying to dictate how I view them. That's like books telling you where you may read them (i.e. in the living room, but not in bed, and don't even think about reading the book in public!...)
