The whole process is a pain, especially when you have a MAC.
Mine hasn't worked properly since Sony upgraded to V3.1 of the reader.
In the Mac, The Sony software detects the reader ok but whenever you go to the (UK) stores page it keeps asking you to register.
The ADE V1.7 on the MAC refuses to see the reader now (It used to though). I've raised this with Adobe but getting nowhere so far.

The reader in the about screen says it isn't registered now. Well it was and I can still read my (DRM'd) books

In Windows under parallels, the Windows Sony software won't run, but at least the ADE 1.7 sees the reader and can transfer books.

Neither Sony nor ADE really give a clue as to how many times you've registered or not. I do try to remember to unregister before each re-install.

The whole process seems determined to be extremely complex, especially when it goes belly up.
