It seems like the new firmware exceeds the device's EPROM capacity and they have to add or replace a chip. Just a thought though.

Sorry guys but I passed on an email just received from Sony without looking at the date. I have since fired back a pointed email telling Sony that they should get their act together because all of the upgraded prs-500's now have problems with the new software and their battery lasting 1/10th of their actual.
