The Quincunx
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle
The Fool

Don't think any of them were 2009 releases though...I read some good 2009 books but none of them reached the engagement level I had with those three - suspense and curiousity for The Quincunx, sympathy and outright bawling for Edgar Sawtelle and guffaws and admiration for the cleverness of The Fool.
