I looked in the
MR Wiki for Sony Portable Reader under
Hard Reset and you start with the Reader off. The
Wiki 505 page.
This is the
download page for specific OS for the 505 on the Sony site. I've never had to use this but if needed it's there.
Sony eSupport for The firmware update did not complete on the Reader. You have to scroll down as there is a lot of white blank space when it comes up.
Well, if the battery is shorted out from trying to turn it on when wet, you can always try opening it up and replacing the battery yourself. Apparently, it is way cheaper than sending it in for Sony repair and replacement.

igorsk has a disassembly set of photos for the 505 so you can see what is inside and notes about it.
I figure that it can't hurt to try anything and everything. You just never know, something just may work. Also, sometimes I've read that a poster tries something again and it works.
