I download my books from Amazon, maybe it's just my tastes but most of what I want is now available as of last week. There's relatively few titles that I may purchase from elsewhere and strip the DRM, the ones that come to mind are the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and Andrew Marr's The Making of Modern Britain. To be fair to Amazon they do allow you to browse what is available to you before you order a Kindle, it's the publishers fault rather than theirs. Amazon.com > Kindle Store > Kindle Books > [Drop-Down Menu] United Kingdom. Here's a list of what I'm looking to purchase in the future, it might spark something for you, though I get the feeling we have different tastes.

A Brief History of Time - Stephen Hawking
Quantum Physics Cannot Hurt You - Marcus Chown
The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins
The Audacity of Hope - Barack Obama
The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
The Stand - Stephen King

I would say that unless you are desperate for the money then keeping the Kindle, even if it's not being used will be a better option because the selection will get better.
